Fashions on the Field

Registrations open at 12:00pm on the day (you cannot pre-register).

Judging commences at 1:00pm on the main stage

Fashion is synonymous with horse racing and the 2026 Hobart Cup Fashions on the Field is all about creativity, style and originality.

Hobart is a mecca for culture and art so judges will be looking for outfits that have that certain point of difference but are appropriate for the races and well styled to suit the individual.

Bright summer colours are popular as are colour blocking, clashing prints and florals.


This years categories are:

1.       Best Dressed Lady

2.       Best Dressed Gent

3.       Best Millinery

Runner up will be awarded in both best dressed Lady and best dressed Gent categories


Best Dressed lady and gent will be judged on:

  •          Style & originality

  •          Appropriateness of the outfit for the individual

  •          Suitability of the outfit for the climate and season

  •          Attention to detail with accessories

  •          Understanding and interpretation of current fashion trends

  •          Grooming and deportment


    Best Millinery will be judged on:

  •          Headwear styled for the Summer Racing season (no felt/wool)

  •          Wearability

  •          Coordination with your outfit

  •          Design and style

  •          Originality

Prizes:

  • Best Dressed Gent - Prize Value $1,000

  • Best Dressed Gent Runner up - Prize Value $200

  • Best Dressed Lady - Prize Value $1,000

  • Best Dressed Lady Runner up - Prize Value $200

  • Best Millinery - Prize Value $200

Alycia Hall

Alycia Hall Owner Waxed Beauty Therapy

Alycia was introduced to the world of fashion through her long-standing love of horse racing, believing the two go hand in hand. She loves that fashion as a representation of your personality and an opportunity to showcase the style you love and confidently express yourself.

She has successfully competed in Fashions on the Field at the Hobart Cup, Launceston Cup and Darwin Cup. Combining her love for both fashion and horses, Alycia and her horse recently competed in (and won) the Off the Track Fashions on the Field competition at the 2025 Royal Melbourne Show.

Alycia is also the owner of Waxed Beauty Therapy in Sorell, which she has proudly operated for 19 years.

A familiar face on the Fashions on the Field circuit, she’s often seen wearing her own bespoke millinery designs — bold, creative and unmistakably “Kaz.” As a frequent entrant herself, she knows the thrill, the nerves and the joy of the runway.

Kaz believes fashion is for absolutely everyone, and her judging philosophy is simple: let your personality shine through. Whether classic, quirky or daring, she celebrates style that tells a story.

Ben O’Brien

Ben is an award-winning hairstylist, fashion lover, and a familiar creative face around Hobart.

Known for his effortless style, warm energy and eye for detail, Ben has shaped the looks of many influential locals and visitors alike. From everyday elegance to statement moments, he brings personality, polish and a touch of fun to every style he creates - always making people feel like the best version of themselves.
